About Us

The Institute of African Royalty (IAR) is a continental body established in 2008 and officially launched in 2009. We serve to promote the integrity, unity and leadership of African Royalty and Traditional Leadership across the continent.

Who We Are

The Institute of African Royalty (IAR) is a (non-governmental organization or a professional body) dedicated to the advancement of the role and place of the African Royalty and Institution of Traditional Leadership in the African continent. It is an Institute that draws its membership from the African countries that have Royalty and Traditional Leadership deeply rooted in the African people’s social, political, economic and cultural psyche. The Institute harnesses the energies of the African Royalty through partnerships and other mechanisms to promote, protect and preserve indigenous knowledge systems and African wisdoms. 

IAR also has a responsibility to defend the advances that have been made by Traditional Leadership to date as well as to intensify work to confront numerous challenges that still faceAfrican people who reside in rural communitiesin the continent as well as the heritage of the broader African society. Accordingly, the Institute of  African Royalty work tirelessly in partnership with other Royals elsewhere in the world as well as significant stakeholders in the continent to erase that which it ugly and repulsive in human society and spearheadrural development,poverty alleviation, inequality, joblessness, peace, justice, freedomand happiness for all the citizens of Africa and the world.

To build a coherent and cohesive Institution of African Royalty (IAR), which plays a central role in governance, traditional affairs and rural development in the African continent. 

Our Mission Statement
IAR strives to promote and support the African Royalty and Traditional Leadership by working in partnership with relevant stakeholders in Africa and the world in the development of traditional and rural communities.

Our Objectives

  • To Promote the Role of African Royalty and Traditional Leadership: Strengthen their position in governance, cultural preservation, and rural development across the African continent.

  • To Preserve Indigenous Knowledge Systems: Safeguard, document and promote African wisdoms and traditional practices.

  • To Advocate for Policy and Legislative Reform: Influence and support the development of policies and laws that recognise and empower Traditional Leadership structures.

  • To Foster Unity and Social Cohesion: Build networks among African Royals and Traditional Leaders to promote a shared vision and collaboration.

  • To Empower Rural and Traditional Communities: Support initiatives that address poverty, inequality, education, health, agriculture, and access to services in rural areas.

  • To Promote African Identity and Cultural Integrity: Uphold and elevate the dignity of African heritage and leadership through public engagement and recognition.

  • To Facilitate Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with governments, institutions, and civil society to advance development through traditional structures.

  • To Provide Education and Leadership Development: Prepare future generations of Royals through training, research, and leadership academies.

  • To Establish a Knowledge and Information Hub: Create databases, publish media content, and disseminate information to educate and inform the public on African Royalty.

  • To Play a Central Role in Continental Institutions: Ensure African Royalty is represented in bodies such as the African Union and Pan-African Parliament.
